JERUSALEM
I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand:
Till we have built Jerusalem,
In England's green & pleasant Land.
William Blake

In the mid-eighties, I started to work on a project called Nothing Doing In King's Cross, which was really a fusion of real life London at the time, featuring a 16 - year old unemployed black girl named Murphy who lived next door to a 4-year old named Emily, who was in fact God. I changed the name to Jerusalem and got a handful of stories printed in Crisis and Heartbreak Hotel, then in 1989 I moved to Brooklyn, and the project's setting started to feel insincere as I no longer lived in London.
So I stopped.
